While walking among and experiencing the buildings, streets and canals, we learned about the role Venice played in trade over the "Silk Road" and the strategies of its rulers to remain a sovereign Republic State over many centuries. We discussed so many things that enabled us to begin to understand the many aspects of history that are seldom addressed in travel presentations on "Venice". Marzia also shared several stories, some personal/family, some historically based legends, describing early life in a manner that we could imagine being there. We received SO much more with this one-on-one experience than with most group tours, even those with small groups. We were able to speak very personally and directly with an enjoyable and knowledgeable person who loves to share and teach about her home! We were simply amazed and so very glad to have made this connection with our new Venetian friend, Marzia! The time passed too fast!
