"Wow, what a day! If you want to experience the real Negombo this is the tour for you. This tuk tuk tour has a bit of everything. We has such a fun & exciting day with our tour guide & driver, Deegoda seeing various attractions in Negombo and then travelling in back lanes outside the city visiting several local industries. We saw traditional Negombo that the general tourist doesn’t get to see. Thanks to Deegoda we now have a greater understanding of Buddhism and other religions while appreciating the architecture of historic churches and mosques. Our tour included a variety of traditional, authentic foods and drinks. We finished our tour with a 1.5hr tour on a traditional catamaran. While I was initially hesitant of including this option, we are so glad we did it. The weather was perfect. Watching the sailors showing their skills putting the sail up, while the sun was setting, and chatting about life with Deegoda was truely magical. Deegoda is just the perfect guide. He is genuinely a kind, generous and wonderful person. He has such a broad knowledge of food, plants, history & various cultures. His English is perfect and he kept us laughing all day. "I was travelling solo and had a 20 hour layover at the Colombo airport in Sri Lanka en route to Australia. I was definitely not going to spend it sitting in the airport, or lazing around the airport layover hotel. I wanted to go exploring but I felt intimidated to go out and about on my own. I found Deegoda via With Locals. He had good reviews and so I reached out to him to inquire about his local tour from the airport. He was super prompt and informative with his replies and I quickly got a good feeling about booking the tour. He was also very flexible about the itinerary of the tour and immediately customised it for me based on my interests and the amount of time I had. He even arranged a private yoga class for me and had a local woman come in to do a cooking demonstration which I was able to get involved in and help make a traditional dinner for us! Deegoda is a true local and knows so many people in Katunayake..so it was so fun ripping around with him in his Tuk Tuk, getting a feel for the local vibe and making many stops to say hi to his friends, taste the local fare and to check out the fish market scene, which is a hallmark of the city. He is in the process of creating a small home-stay accommodation, so it was amazing to be shown to a basic but clean and private room where I could have a rest, take a shower and keep my belongings locked and safe whole we were out exploring. All and all this experience exceeded my expectations and I would highly recommend it to anyone who has a short or long time to explore the local area around the Colombo airport. Thank you so much!"

"My husband and I booked the Negombo Delight: A Cultural, Culinary, and Scenic Day for our first day in Sri Lanka with Deegoda because we wanted to have a glimpse into the way the people lived. While so many tours say they do this, it is rarely the case because they go to activities set up for tourists. This was not the case; it truly gave us insight into village life, the local foods and drinks as well as the local markets, including the incredible wet and dry fish markets. (During the day, we had many samples of great food, local fruits and the local toddy.) We had the opportunity to interact with local people as they worked on making firecrackers and bricks. We saw many local sites as well. The highlight of our day (and may possibly be the highlight of the entire trip) was the catamaran sunset cruise. While we didn’t see the sunset because it was cloudy, it was an incredible experience. We felt extremely lucky to be riding on one of these local catamarans and be able to watch the three guys manage the massive mast. Deegoda’s bubbly personality, professionalism, kindness, constant smiling and laughing added such a warm and personal touch throughout the day. It was a perfect first day experience and introduction to Negombo and Sri Lanka. The saddest part was knowing we were ending our time with him since we were headed to other locations and had booked other guides. We would have enjoyed having him throughout our entire time in Sri Lanka. We have had many guides throughout our travel years, and he is one of the best ever.
