Dinner with a local host should be at the top of your list of things to do in Amsterdam. It is the perfect way to see how the Dutchies live and what they eat. If your guide has his or her roots elsewhere, there’s a good chance you will eat Indonesian rijsttafel, Surinam Roti or Italian pasta. Our community is so multi-culti that all those dishes made their way into most Dutch kitchens.
However, you could also ask your guide to serve you a truly traditional meal, which will be some form of cooked vegetables, cooked potatoes and a piece of meat, possibly mashed up into a stamppot. Have fun conversations and enjoy your time in a local Dutch home!
