Climate & Weather in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has a tropical monsoon climate. Average temperatures are quite high, varying between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius. However, because Sri Lanka is surrounded by sea, a cooling breeze can be found everywhere.

The Northern and Eastern parts of the country are dry areas, while the wet zone can be found in the South Western region. If you are travelling to the Central Highlights, you will be surprised by the drop in temperature due to the high mountains – make sure to pack your warm clothes when going to for instance Nuwara Eliya. This mountain area, together with Kandy, are always experiencing a mixed climate.
