The souk, or the Medina, is a labyrinth of mazes that sits proudly in the middle of the city, acting as the heart and soul of Marrakech. Even if you don’t do any shopping there, it’s worth going just for the atmosphere. Hundreds of stalls and shops fill every inch of the souks and they unfurl into dozens of narrow mazes and alleyways. Vendors call out for you from their stores, vespas whizz by, colors fill the place and every corner holds a promise of an awaiting surprise.
You will find everything your heart desires in the souks – handmade artifacts, clothes, rugs, lanterns, mirrors, furniture, jewelry, spices, herbs…. the list can go on forever! It’s best to have a local guide with you to help you navigate the maze of lanes, give you a reliable list of shopping and of course – teach you how to haggle!
