Milan is a place full of excitement and has tons of amazing things to do & see in Milan! It surpasses expectations. The constant renovations and investment over the years has helped Milan become one of the number one cities to visit in Europe. The city’s checkered past is long forgotten, and it’s finally managed to shake off its negative image it once had, but the history remains in every cobble and every brick. There’s a lot more to do in Milan than you might think, but the problem is tourists just don’t have a clue where to go. It’s so easy to fall in love with Milan’s city centre and large cathedral that you won’t ever leave its center and venture further if you’re not with someone who knows the area well.

Milan’s a city with constant action – there’s always something going on whether it’s a busy home football match, a fashion show or a large business expo. Milan’s a central tourist hub, meaning that there’s a lot to do and see. Milan will open your eyes if you visit the real Milan, away from the commercialization and busy tourist areas.

To really understand the Milanese way of life and appreciate the city’s charm, you’ll need to see Milan through the eyes of a local. Top 10 Attractions in Milan

  • Duomo is a must and it’s Milan’s pride and glory. This gothic cathedral dominates Milan’s central square. The fine details that took over 500 years to perfect will make you gasp.
  • Museo del Novecento is the perfect modernist showcase. The 20th century neo-impressionist building blends well with the old. Enjoy the work of some the world’s famous surrealists and futurists.
  • La Scala is an opera lover’s dream. Admire the beautiful interior or if you have time, treat yourself to one of the gilt-edge private boxes and take in a show.
  • The Science Museum of Milan is superlative to any other. It is here that you’ll learn the secret that Leonardo da Vinci wanted to be known as a scientist and not a painter.
  • Chiesa di San Maurizio is a small royal chapel and also a convent. The 16th century architecture is breathtaking, and Bernardino Luini’s frescoes will leave you in awe.
  • Basilica di Sant’ Ambrogio is dedicated to Milan’s patron saint. Once considered to be one of the star bishops, he’s now buried in the mysterious looking crypt of the simple looking cathedral.
  • Piccolo Teatro Grassi is not your average theater, which is why it attracts the young ‘it’ crowd in Milan. It’s a theater that takes risks and specializes in avant-garde productions.
  • Sforza Castle is an iconic building which is still in great condition. It has intriguing museums and small parts of Milan’s civic and cultural history, which includes Michelangelo’s final piece.
  • Parco Sempione located behind the Sforza Castle was once the hunting grounds for the castle’s kings, princes and dukes. The beautiful green area with ornamental ponds makes for a nice walk.
  • Triennale Design Museum is for those interested in applied arts and design. Milan is known for its high quality, so it’s worth checking out.

dan Sara

Milan's Fashion Outlets with a Personal Shopper

Sara did a wonderful job showing us around and was so much fun to be with. She even gave us dinner recommendations for the next city we were visiting. We really enjoyed our time with her. Sara even helped us with a major problem. My husband had left his cell phone in the taxi we took to meet her. She was able to help us with that and keep us all calm. She’s great!

Brenda Elisa

Cheesemaking Workshop with an Artisan

What an incredible experience! We feel truly blessed to have taken this cheesemaking workshop with Elisa. She is a true gem and a wealth of knowledge. The hands-on portion of the workshop assisting Elisa in making fresh cheese with the milk collected from their cows that morning was fantastic. She shared her knowledge with every step of the process, including background and historical information about why something is done the way it is. Knowledge that has been passed down from generation-to-generation. We felt like a part of her family by the end. Elisa is passionate about sustainable living and a short supply chain. You can see their entire production cycle from farm to table during this workshop.

As our fresh cheese set, Elisa gave us a tour of her farm, including meeting the cows that provide her milk for her cheese and yogurt. Part of the tour also included being able to see their 13th century farmhouse. WOW! I am very interested in history and this was an extra special unexpected experience!

After we finished the farm tour we sat down for lunch with the cheese we made earlier, as well as the same cheese at different stages of aging. We also had saffron risotto she had made for us using their farm's Canaroli rice, fresh bread, wine, and great conversation.

We would highly recommend this cheesemaking workshop with Elisa and would love to do it again the next time we are in Milan.

Local Attractions in Milan

  • Sforza Castle’s iconic look was home to the Sforza dynasty of Milan. Its well-kept interior and original furniture is spectacular, and you can imagine life as a royal during the renaissance. The museums contain opulent furniture, jewels and renaissance frescoes from some the world’s masters.
  • Parco Sempione is a piece of art. This public park is a favorite of the Milanese. The steel tower from 1933 provides a spectacular view across the park and further beyond from the 108m high lookout platform. The park is also home to the mini colosseum, Arena Civica.
  • Teatro La Scala’s season typically runs from the beginning of December through to July. Other than having an indulgent day at the opera, you can also see other performances such as the ballet, concerts, and theater performances.
  • Duomo is a beautiful pink vision. Made out of Candolglia marble, this extravagant Gothic piece of architecture was commissioned way back in 1387. You’ll be taken back by the ornate white façade, which is beautifully adorned with an amazing 135 spires and an astonishing 3200 statues
