Shopping Areas in Athens

Whether you want to scout the city in seek of a bargain or stroll through the city's mall, Athens can satiate your shopping demands. Shopping in Athens follows no rules. This is why this city offers the possibility of bargaining in certain shopping districts while, at the same time, you can shop glamorous reminders of your trip in some others. No matter the style of shopping you are into, Athens will constantly surprise you with its vast shopping opportunities.

1. Luxurious Shopping In Kolonaki And Kifisia
If you are a supporter of haute couture and refined garments, then you should definitely choose the district of Kolonaki for your Athens' shopping experience. The majority of stores in this district revolve around beauty and elegance. Stylish creations from a plethora of new and successful designers are ripe for the taking.
On the northern part of the city, in Kifisia, you can also run into more stores that offer similar shopping options. What is the difference between those two districts? The ambience. The stores of Kifisia are housed in buildings which were "face-lifted" and now give off a vibe from past eras.

2. Vintage Shopping In Psiri And Monastiraki
Vintage leather jackets, used furniture, books with yellow pages, vinyl records of collective importance and unique pottery pieces are just some of the things you can find in your Athens' shopping venture in Psiri. If you have a knack for finding out the best bargains, then the district of Monastiraki should be your top choice. What is more, the flea market each Sunday will enrich your vintage shopping options.

3. Art Shopping In Plaka
Athens is a city that has deeply immersed itself into the world of art. From archaic to contemporary, signs of art have showered the city. This is why art shopping in Athens has always been flourishing. Plaka is the hot spot for such type of shopping. To be more exact, visitors can find several pieces of art, from jewelry and paintings to statuettes inspired by ancient Greece. Artistic pieces can be also found in museums such as the new museum of Acropolis and the museum of Cycladic Art.

4. Convenient Shopping In Downtown Athens
There is also the option of mainstream shopping in Athens, also known as going to the mall. Luckily, Athens comes with a significant amount of malls to suit both locals' and visitors' needs. Attica and Athenian Capitol can be found in downtown Athens. Upstate you run into the Mall Athens and Golden Hall while near the international airport you see the Airport's Commercial Park. This is a good option for some last-minute shopping.

5. Greek Food Shopping In The Central Market Of Athens
Greek cuisine represents more than just food. It is a lifestyle mentality that promotes healthy products and intense flavors. Your trip would be incomplete if you did not give Greek food shopping a chance. Varvakeios Agora (Central Market) is the place to find whatever you are looking for. You can make pit-stops to taste the products and pick out olives of excellent quality, virgin honey, savory cheese and countless spices for a Greek meal back home. Definitely one of the best local things to do in Athens.

Athens Evening Food Tour: 10 Tastings

I contacted Marina to arrange a custom tour of Athens on my arrival day to the city. Essentially, I wanted to blend an intro tour along with some street food and a wine tasting. Marina ended up planning exactly what I was hoping for!

Starting off in the center of the city, she gave me an overview of the central neighborhoods. Along the way, we stopped in a few places for traditional snacks and finished at a tasting she had arranged at a wine bar, where I was able to try 4 very different and wonderful Greek wines paired with cheeses and lamb prosciutto. I enjoyed the wine bar so much that I returned the following night for more! Marina also gave me a bunch of other suggestions for places and things to try during my time in Athens.

If you're really into food and wine, there cannot be a better guide in Athens than Marina! Thank you so much!

Athens Evening Food Tour: 10 Tastings

Marina was a gracious hostess on the Athens Food Tour. The food was great, but I especially loved the personal touch that Marina added when explaining much of the history behind the food. It was a fabulous experience for me!

Athens Evening Food Tour: 10 Tastings

Marina was a great host and catered the food tour to our preferences. In the time we were with her, she gave a crash course on Greek cuisine and was very knowledgeable on other matters. Highly recommend this tour with her, particularly if you are short on time and want to have a preview of all things Greece.
