Munich "City of Beer" Tour
The message read: Underneath the tower of the Glockenspiel...I’ve got a beige bag and a grey waistcoat/vest on... standing on the right hand side at the bottom of the tower! - What might understandably be mistaken for instructions for a clandestine meeting between spies was in fact a message from Iain Mackinnon, our tour guide in Munich.
Blessed with a natural and easy sense of humor, a passion for both the city and it’s favorite beverage and armed with an impressive knowledge of the aforementioned, Iain educated and entertained our group of four through the intimate byways, grand squares, vast beer halls and delightful markets of Bavaria’s lovely Capitol city.
Before we knew it, we found ourselves In Museumsstuberl Pub, one of Munich’s oldest buildings dating to around 1327. As its name implies, the historic building is home to both an Oktoberfest Museum and a small but lively pub.
Our evening came to a reluctant close with a tour of the charming little museum and a beer tasting in the pub, accompanied by an a abundant platter of local cheeses, breads, sausages and spreads hosted by our intrepid Iain.
All of us agreed that we can’t recommend Iain highly enough to anyone coming to Munich and wanting to spend a few hours “drinking-in” the city’s history and beloved beer with Iain - Did I mention that Iain is handsome enough to be starring in his own spy thriller - perhaps as James Bond in 007.
