Top 5 Berlin nightlife locations

1. Go to the KulturBrauerei
KulturBrauerei has went a long way from the original purpose it was built for (as brewery, in the 1800s). Today, it represents one of the best places where you can get a taste of the Berlin nightlife, as it hosts a number of clubs that are definitely worth checking out (such as Soda Club).
If you go to the entrance on Schönhauser Allee, you will have the opportunity to discover the old boiler rooms of the brewery. These have been transformed into concert venues, allowing you to check out the hottest bands of the moment. Add to that summer outdoor concerts and you have the perfect recipe for one of the best things to do in Berlin at night time.

2. Pay a visit to the Tacheles
The history of this place is perhaps just as amazing as the number of possibilities for entertainment. Your local guide can tell you tons about it. The old Jewish department store was damaged in the 2nd World War, being then left as a ruin and only transformed into a cultural venue after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Nowadays, it is a great place to enjoy nightlife in Berlin, with a myriad of options being presented in front of your eyes. There is live music to be enjoyed at Café Zapata or the techno & house club to be savored on the top floor. Bonus, live jam bands in the courtyard.

3. Party in Kreuzberg
In the Berliner neighborhood known as Kreuzberg, you will find one of the most popular clubs of the city, Watergate. If you want to see a classic techno club and enjoy the LED lighting system that has served as inspiration for all the other clubs in the world, you have arrived at the right place.
Watergate is the perfect place to experience Berlin nightlife firsthand, with the Water Floor providing an amazing view directly to the Spree (Berlin’s river). Plus, there is a floating deck terrace, allowing you to enjoy a splendid view of the sunrise. Let your host know that you want to go to this spot and they’ll take you there at exactly the precise time!

4. Enjoy your night on Friedrichshain
After the fall of the Berlin wall, many clubs were formed by the young, alternative crowd in abandoned buildings. If you go to Friedrichshain, the club to check out is Berghain, located in a converted power station. This club just goes to prove that the nightlife in Berlin is still very much about techno music.
Enjoy the house music played in the upstairs Panorama bar and do not hesitate to get your taste of electroacoustic music every Thursday, especially if you are looking for a unique party experience. Your local guide will tell you more about how to fully experience this cool place. Berghain is a place where you can appreciate the freedom of the German people, have fun and listen to some pretty great music at the same time.

5. Dance in Mitte
The central part of Berlin might be home to a number of impressive clubs but nothing compares to Haus des Reisens (former Soviet tower block) and Weekend, the club you will find there. A powerful expression of Berlin nightlife, this club is located on the 12th and 15th floors, plus there is a roof terrace bar that provides some pretty interesting entertainment opportunities, which your host will tell you lots about.
Rave, house and techno music are at home in this club, so you should definitely prepare yourself for a one-of-a-kind going out experience. Plus, given the high altitude, you will be able to enjoy a splendid view of Berlin. Bonus: the famous tech house group, Tiefschwarz, performs here on a regular basis.

Mike Martin

Berlin Metro Tour

Martin’s subway tour was a real highlight of my trip to Berlin. I’d taken his Alternative Berlin on my last trip and jumped at the chance to hear more of his stories. 2 friends of mine joined along and we had a great time. Martin has a treasure trove of stories and insight into life in this amazing city. A trip here wouldn’t be the same without having him show me around. There are so many layers in Berlin. He does a fantastic job of providing historical and cultural context. Ask him about the byob wine garden! It’s a must see/do. Thanks!!

Cynthia Sizwe

Berlin History Tour With A Local

Our walking tour with Sizwe was superb...really a great way to get a comprehensive overview of the main historical sites from WWII. We saw so much in such a short period of time. Sizwe has a knack for how he delivers his overview while walking you through the sites.....without revealing too much before you get there...which adds to the impact. He was quick to respond via text before as we were coordinating the tour and he met us at our hotel on time. He took time to chat with us to gauge our level of knowledge and interests before we left for the tour. He then took us to our nearest train station, helped us buy our day passes, and then we travelled to the start of our tour. On top of the tour he gave us good general advice on where to go on our own (eg Museum Island and east side gallery). Plus he is a super nice and interesting guy. Would definitely recommend him. Sizwe we will see you in Porto some day! Cynthia & Minna
