Restaurants in Paris

Paris – what more can be said? Capital of France, this city perhaps more than any other on Earth symbolizes style, romance, chicness and the joy of life. It also is one of the greatest culture centers of mankind being rich in art, architecture, drama, learning, music and of course, incomparable sights. As if all that isn’t enough, it can also justifiably claim to be home to one of the finest cuisines! However, there are two types of Paris. The first is the city that’s the most popular tourist destination in the world. You can find that easily enough – just follow the tourist buses as they make their way around the traditional tourist trails. The second city though is the Paris of the Parisians. This is a city of small cobbled back streets, with intimate bars and cafés, hidden antique shops, craft boutiques and street markets. It’s the Paris of quiet mornings in a secluded café with a coffee and croissant watching the sun rising around Montmartre. So, which of these versions of Paris is for you? If you’d like to see the real Paris then let Withlocals tours open it up to you! There are so many awesome things to do in Paris that you will love the city for sure!

Top 10 Modestly Priced Parisian Restaurants Paris

  • La Table du Marquis. Specialising in food from the south west of France, it’s very popular with locals.
  • Chartier. Arguably one of Paris’ most famous restaurants, this has stunning “fin de siècle” genuine décor which has to be seen. A tad touristy but also popular with locals. Prices are also reasonable.
  • Le Petit Clerc. Great food served close to the Eiffel Tower, the emphasis is on light and fresh food. It’s unpretentious but very popular – so get there early!
  • Le Louchebem. Designed for meat-lovers, you’ll see all sorts of joints roasted, grilled and barbequed. Not really for vegetarians!
  • Chez Stella. Great un-pretentious but imaginative food served by friendly staff. Make sure you book to avoid disappointment.
  • La Pointe du Groin. Here they produce rustic Breton food like pig’s trotters, door-stop sandwiches and great cakes too like Far Breton.
  • L’Ardoise. This establishment specializes in new experimental French cuisine. It’s delicious, if slightly unpredictable; with another big plus being that it’s reasonably priced too.
  • La Gaigne. Small bordering miniscule, this is really great food served at surprisingly affordable prices.
  • Breizh Café. Breizh is ‘Brittany’ in the Breton language so no surprise that this great restaurant majors on Breton food including magnificent Galettes plus local (Breton) craftsman cider!
  • Chez Germaine. A small chain but staggeringly good French food at very affordable prices. Again, loved by the locals!

Just a sample of traditional Paris Dishes

  • Gratin Dauphinoise – potatoes, cheese, onions.
  • Pork with lentils
  • Herring and potatoes
  • Duck confit – a leg of duck cooked and preserved in fat. Sound gruesome? Well, in fact, it’s delicious!
  • Fillet of Pollock in fennel
  • Tarte au Citron – stunningly good lemon tarts
  • Kouign-amann. This is really a Breton dish but the Parisians know a good edible when they see it. It’s a butter gateaux pastry. Impossible to describe – just eat it (and watch your waistline expand!)

Paris with a Photographer: Stroll, Taste, Click

We highly recommend this tour! If you want to do something unique and extra special this is it! Joao is very professional, (his pics are great), and he is so kind. It was like walking around Paris with a good friend telling us all about the sights. This was definitely the highlight of our trip. When we returned home and watched the movie Amelie, it was really cool to have stood in the same places, (and have pictures!) where the movie was filmed. Thank you Joao for great memories!

Paris Kickstart Tour with a Local

Although my plan was to spend one day in France, at the end due to a problem with my flight I only had a couple of hours stop in CDG. Anyway, I decided to take the chance (and risk) to go out of the airport and visit the city of the lights.
I must say that the experience with Alex was more than I could have expected. She helped me to plan the activities even before traveling (timing, choosing trains, etc). Then when we did the tour, she manage to show me all the main landmarks of the city in such a short time. We passed by Notre Dame, Louvre, Arc of Triumph and even was time left to a quickly visit to Eiffel Tower, all these in less than 3 hours.!
I will definitively recommend her for any tourist or occasional visitor passing by Paris, as she speaks an excellent English, is a truly local, knows a lot about history and is very supportive and flexible in schedules.

The Best of Vintage Shopping with a Fashion Magazine Editor

Haute Couture mad 16 year old in Paris with Mum had a fabulous fashion experience with the awesome Alberto. He is a perfect combination of up to the moment fashion knowledge with all the local shopping secrets. He was brilliant at quickly understanding what we wanted from our tour and was unfailingly gracious when we had bags to carry and finding a cafe to ease sore feet! What an excellent introduction to the fashion scene in Paris - would highly recommend.
