Nightlife in Paris

Parisians like to party and party hard! So going out at nightime is one of the best things to do in Paris! You’ll find every conceivable sort of club, bar and disco in this city and many will go on into the early hours. If you like, you could take in a big show at one of the major tourist spots like the Moulin Rouge but expect to pay heavily for the privilege. Withlocals Parisian guides will have their own spots where the food and entertainment is superb and prices sensible. Typically, many nights out in Paris start with a restaurant meal then move on to bars, clubs and discos afterwards – though many restaurants also provide live music as you eat.

Unlike in some cities, Paris nightspots tend to be populated with largely very well behaved people and excessive drinking and associated issues are rare compared to many other capitals. Generally, Parisian venues are not as ‘hard edge’, ‘controversial’ and excessive, as those in say London but are instead more refined. The really big nights out are, predictably, Friday and Saturday, though Thursday night is also very lively with the many students who are planning to return home on Friday evening. Local tours will make sure you find those venues that most tourists will just never see or even hear of!

Top 10 French Clubs and Discos in Paris

  • Le China. Really great Chinese food but constantly live and highly varied music also. Jazz, Rock, South American, folk – any of these could be performed while you’re eating.
  • Autour de Midi. One of the relatively few genuinely authentic Jazz clubs left in Paris. Many others are tourist traps, so get advice from your local guide if this is your scene.
  • The ChaCha Club. The big and impressive dining room is transformed around midnight into a dance venue for the latest in techo music.
  • Le Truskel. The music here caters more for English-speakers and is usually a mix of punk, rock and softer rock right up until 6am.
  • Le Baron. Very trendy, small and hard to get into unless you know a local, the music here is varied and it’s very popular with the trendy young set. Oh yes, the building was once a brothel!
  • Bagatelle. This is a chateau in the Bois de Boulogne and was built for the old French royal family. In summertime today (weekends), the building transforms itself into a giant open-air party disco. Big crowds, great music in fantastic surroundings.
  • Batofar. This is, believe it or not, an old lighthouse ship moored on the Seine. The dancing here virtually never stops and it’s very famous.
  • The Social Club. Small and ‘edgy’, there are some great bands and French Indie music on offer here.
  • Opera, Theatre and Concerts. No, not a club but rather just to make the point that Paris has the best ‘high-brow’ cultural venues in the world. Not everyone equates “nightlife” with “dance” and if you’re one of those then you’ll have plenty to choose from.
  • Restaurants. There are dozens of restaurants in Paris that combine live music with excellent dining. Your local guide will know where the best are.

Party districts in Paris

  • Rue de la Huchette. In the Latin Quarter, the ancient buildings are full of great restaurants and lively bars. Many groups here simply move from one to another as the night (and morning!) wears on.
  • Avenue Champs-Elysées. No, it’s not just a shopping district because at night this area (and surrounding streets) is alive with clubs and bars. It’s pretty trendy, smart and discerning. It’s marvellous but you won’t need to be too worried about your budget.
  • Oberkampf. A fantastic area for bars and clubs. It’s also very trendy and ‘cool’ but in a much less exclusive way than the Avenue Champs-Elysées. This is where many locals find their venues – though there are many other districts too.

Paris Favourite Food tour: the 10 Tastings

Michel was a delightful and gracious guide. Due to circumstances over which we had no control our original time slot had to be changed, and he worked with us to find an agreeable alternative. He shared not only tastings, but the history of the Marais area. The 10 tastings were delightful and varied. His knowledge of wines enhanced those tastings. I highly recommend his tour

French Dinner for Food Lovers

Inka and Sebastien made my short stay in Paris quite enjoyable. Dinner with them included great conversation, laughs, wine, and, of course, great food! At first I thought it would be awkward meeting two strangers for dinner -- boy was I wrong! They made me feel like part of the family -- so much so I didn't want to leave. Warm, inviting, and knowledgeable about so many things which kept the conversation flowing. When I'm back in Paris I plan on joining them again through WithLocals.

If you want to walk away from your Paris trip smiling with good memories ... see Inka and Sebastien.

Paris with a Photographer: Stroll, Taste, Click

I had never done a shooting tour with anyone before, so when I booked I wasn't sure what to expect. Joao was very cheerful and friendly from the time he shook hands with us till he said bye. We walked the steps of this talented photographer in literally his backyard. Long-time a local in Montmarte neighborhood, Joao knew the history behind the local stores, the streets and the community. He interrupted his stories to only take photos of us next to some iconic features of the town, as well as with the view from Sacre Coeur as the backdrop. I just received my edited photos, which all look stunning. Highly recommended experience and tour guide in Paris!
