This is one of the most luxurious and prestigious districts in Paris. Historically this was a favourite area of French highest nobility. Today the 7th arrondissement contains a large number of administrative institutions, including the French National Assembly (Parliament) and Hôtel Matignon (the residence of the Prime Minister). There are also numerous Parisian attractions such as the Eiffel Tower, the Hôtel des Invalides (Napoleon’s resting place) and the Musée d’Orsay (which contains one of the world's largest collections of impressionist paintings).
You should absolutely visit the area if you want to feel the splendour of glorious French capital. However, the accommodation and shopping in the district are expensive, so staying there might not be the best idea. Make sure you go through the district with your favorite host that can tell you all about the district and its amazing spots.
