What you can expect

Historically, Lavapiés was a neighborhood in Madrid that attracted only immigrants, but in recent years, it has become very popular for it's multicultural, exotic vibe and alternative restaurants and bars. Now it's a super popular neighborhood with a lot of energy and vibrancy.

And thanks to its multicultural influence, Lavapiés offers an infusion of different foods and flavors and I want to give you a taste of what this lively neighborhood has in store for you.

Let's start with a classic, a Spanish tortilla! You can't leave Madrid before trying this traditional dish. Then we will try a Portugese tapa, a small taste of bacalao (dried, salted cod), which is a staple in the Portugese diet. To wash down our tapa, we will enjoy a small beer, called a caña.
Let's keep tingling our taste buds with a refreshing drink and a plate of traditionally-flavored food from Senegal. My recommendation? Try this sweet drink made from the Baobab plant- a tree that grows in Senegal!

To continue our trip of flavors from around the world, let's try Singara, which comes from Bangladesh. This dish is a mix of vegetables, or beef, and spices that are wrapped in dough and deep fried, then served with a light sauce, as well as a spicy sauce. Personalize it to your liking!

Craving something sweet? Let's taste a delicious pastry from Syria. The pastries are homemade and beautifully presented, the perfect sweet treat!

To end on a high note, we will visit a Spanish bar that prepares and serves food and drinks from Asturias, which is in the north of Spain. We will try Sidra, which is a tart alcoholic drink made from apples. Here we will be served a small plate (a tapa) of homemade traditional food.

Do you have space for more food? Let me know and I can add more stops to our fun experience. Any special requests or diet preferences? I'll take care of you!

After graduating college, I moved to Madrid with a contract to teach English in a local high school, two fully packed bags, and a whole lot of excitement for the future. During the last two years, I have been teaching, but more than that- I have been living, exploring, adventuring, traveling, EATING, and discovering so many great things about this wonderful city.
