Spoken in: English, Español, Português

( 87 reviews ) star Day trip Sintra 1 - 4 watch_later 5 hours
  • Sintra's old Tram
  • Monserrate Palace and Gardens
  • 30 Minutes outside Lisbon

You will meet here: Portela de Sintra

What you can expect

Sintra received classification as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995.

It is the only place in Portugal emerging from the last Ice Age at the same time as Scotland and New Zealand, sharing some of their beauty and flora.

I would like to invite you to know this magical place, located just 30 minutes away from Lisbon. We will enjoy a Tram tour, focusing a little on its history but also in making sure you enjoy your surroundings, by allowing your senses to take in as much as possible!

The tram journey will take you around the outskirts of Sintra, while being able to see the several beautiful monuments we have to offer, such as the Moorish Castle, the Pena Palace, the Monserrate Palace (which we will visit next).

You will enjoy yourself in a much more simpler way by just observing the wonders of nature all around you and, I know from own experience, sometimes you just want to create long-term memories of places where you have been and an injection of local history is not exactly what you are looking for, right?

I will give you the highlights of these places and will make sure you and your friends will have plenty of photographs to share on your way back.

The Tram will take you all the way out to the beach area and there are a 15 minutes stop before making our way back to Sintra. And please believe me when I say, it is worth it making the way back by tram as the angle of the views is totally different!!

After we will take a short walk to the train station and get on a small bus and off we go to visit this beautiful piece of art - the Monserrate Palace! This is probably the less visited of all the Palaces and manor houses in Sintra, however in my very own opinion - probably the most beautiful of all! Also, it is the only one which has never been directed linked to the Portuguese Royal Family but to some nobles from the United Kingdom.

Just before taking our tour of Monserrate, I will offer you a small homemade snack, as this tour is slightly longer than usual - just across from Monserrate gardens there is a very nice, quiet picnic area where we can make a small stop, before continuing the tour.

I truly hope I can make you love this magical place as much as I do!!

Hello everyone!
My name is Sofia and I am a Portuguese girl who has been working onboard cruise ships and private yachts for the last 11 years and it was here that I have developed my thirst for knowledge - knowledge to know and meet people from all walks of life, to learn about their cultures, about their history and traditional costumes and very specially, their food!! I have travelled all over the world and have eaten in fancy restaurants and have eaten on the side of the road on a small stool with the plate on my lap some of the most delicious food I have ever tasted - and my great passion is Asia, after Portuguese food!! I love to welcome people to my country and to Sintra, which has a very special place in my heart and to be the host like so many other people were to me during my travels… Let me show you to my beautiful country and the lovely food we are known for!!"
