"We spent a full day with Francesco exploring Herculaneum and Pompeii as a family of four (two boys aged 7 and 10) and it was genuinely one of the highlights of our trip. Francesco is a trained archaeologist who grew up in this part of Italy, and that combination of academic knowledge and local roots makes him exceptional. He doesn’t just recite facts; he brings these places to life in a way that had our kids genuinely hooked. That’s no small thing when you’re asking a 7-year-old to care about ancient ruins. His English is excellent — he lived in the UK for a period — and he has that rare ability to pitch his explanations perfectly, whether he’s talking to the adults or crouching down to explain something to the boys at their level. What really set Francesco apart was his flexibility and calm when things went sideways. Our train from Naples was significantly delayed and he simply reorganised the itinerary on the spot to make the timings work, then drove us all in his car between the two sites himself. In between, he took us for lunch at a local spot nowhere near the tourist trail — exactly the kind of place you’d never find on your own. He also seems to know everyone in the area, which gives you that reassuring sense that you’re in genuinely good hands rather than just being another booking on someone’s calendar. We would recommend Francesco without hesitation and would book with him again in a heartbeat."

"The tour of Pompeii & Herculaneum is a must do together. As Raffaele explains, each site is a piece of the puzzle of what happened that day in 79AD & they show different aspects of daily life. He gave us a great understanding of the sites & really brought them to life. Raffaele is easy to talk to, extremely knowledgeable, & a genuinely nice guy. "Francesco is a wonderful and generous guide whose passion for his home town and archeology shone through each of the stories he shared with us. Don’t miss having Francesco take you to the Herculaneum site as well, where the artefacts and preserved remains of are even more amazing. Coming all the way from Australia Francesco was happy to help us with working out the trains to get to Pompeii from Rome. Then as soon as a train strike impacted part of our travel he was in communication with us to help make sure we were still able to get to Pompeii. We cannot recommend Francesco more highly as a guide. He will transport you back in time and bring Pompeii and Herculaneum alive especially for you. "
